Halco (the J. Halpern Company of Pittsburg,
Pennsylvania) was known for their quality. They were a high volume distributor
that sold millions of Cap Guns that were produced by other companies. They sold
to a lot of the major retail outlets. In many cases the manufacturing companies
even put the HALCO name on the guns they produced for Halco. So they were very
responsible for a great number of the guns that we have cherished throughout
the years.

There are only a very few
pistol canes made in the Cap Gun world. Here is one that doesn't even try to
disguise itself as merely a cane. It's basically a HALCO Derringer, but with a
cane attached to an enlarge barrel. Pretty cool.

This TV show lasted from
1955 to 1957 and starred Buster Crabbe (as Captain Michael Gallant, who also
played Tarzan at one time), Fuzzy Knight (as Private Fuzzy Knight) and Cullen
Crabbe (as Cuffy Sanders.

Now here we
have a nice little set from HALCO that's advertised from the TV show Paladin -
Have Gun Will Travel starring Richard Boone, who was also the voice of
the dragon Smaug in the cartoon of The Hobbit. "You have nice manners
for a thief...and a liar." It has Hubley's Derringer, and of course a
photo.

Here is the HALCO Derringer set in mint condition.

This is another HALCO
set for Paladin from the Have Gun Will Travel TV series.
Thanks to Jack
Rosenthal of Toys and More for the above photos.
This is a very rare box and
is the official one from the TV show.

Here's another example of a
Cap Gun distributed by one company and made by another. This one was made by
Hubley and Hubley even sold an identical one. It's pretty ornate, huh?

Here is the HALCO version of the Leslie-Henry Cap Gun with the
box. You will notice that the gun doesn't have any scrollwork on the barrel and
the grips are different from the photo.
And here's a good close-up of the box.

Here's a HALCO (read: also Buzz Henry) double holster set w/ Buzz
Henry Ranger Cap Guns. Scott has also put the 2 boxes for the Rangers in this
photo. The holster is really nice and there aren't very many examples of
anything Wells Fargo in the Cap Gun world.
The Wells Fargo name was
licensed out to other companies for marketing. This hat came from the Overland
Productions, Inc. and was a Benay Albee original.

McCollum.
This is a revolving cylinder
gun from 1955-1960 that was made by the Leslie-Henry company for HALCO and is
labeled, "MARSHAL." It has translucent amber "root beer" grips. Very nice
gun! Wait 'til you hear this: Bob Terry still makes these guns!!!
Amazing!

HALCO Texas (by Leslie-Henry)

This
HALCO offering (by Leslie-Henry) is an almost exact clone of their Canadian
Marshal. Of course it has the standard America screws in the grips and the
hinge. But unlike the Canadian Marshal, it has a fancier barrel. I easily could
have put this offering in the Leslie-Henry page, but you know the
score.
The state of Texas sure got a lot of publicity, didn't it?
Hey...that's where I live!

I honestly don't know
where these photos of the box came from. |

Here's another set by
HALCO of the 6/7 and it's the Lawman series. This Cap Gun is (as far as I know)
the only one of its style with the dual barrels. Naturally Danny added the
caps. The gun is basically the same configuration as the Nichols Stallion 38,
just with extra features.

The
Diamond "H" on the grip immediately identifies this as a HALCO product. Or a
Leslie-Henrydepending on your level of training. But Halco was a major
distributor and hired quality companies to build them Cap Guns.

|
Well, I
found some more photos of the HALCO Marshal Cap Gun, but in this case, they are
a little different. They are not the Leslie-Henry version, so I am presenting
them here for your pleasure. These photos are also by Mr. Bob Garvey. He
usually sells nothing but the best. You can clearly see the quality of this
particular gun. It obviously didn't come from the same set. This one is
identical to the Hubley Marshal because IT IS a Hubley! One of the things that
makes this gun unusual is that the grips are glued together to make a single
unit. Most grips are either screwed to the frame or riveted. These don't have
the usual "frame in the middle." The only real difference between this and the
Hubley is the grip. This has a staghorn grip without the star in a circle. And
of course it says, "HALCO" on the left side.
Thanks Bob Garvey! |
