Mattel produced several multi-gun sets during the late 1950's thru the mid 1960's. This one is dated 1961 on the back of the box and is the 2nd variation box with the open top with no lid. All Mattel sets with more than one gun are rare and very desirable by Mattel Collectors and this one in my opinion is one of the most desirable of all of the multiple gun sets produced by Mattel. It comes complete with the Shootin' Shell Fanner Revolver with rawhide belt, holster & knife with sheath, WINCHESTER Shootin' Shell Rifle with the smaller Shootin' Shell bullet pack affixed to the barrel and the original standing target & Shootin' Shell bullet pack still factory stapled to the box bottom. It is one of the cap guns in the Nichols line that used their patented shooting shell firing three-piece bullets. Nichols introduced it during the 100th anniversary of the US Civil War. It is a copy of the Colt Firearms Company black powder revolver used during the Civil War. The Nichols Model 61 cap guns came in three finishes: blue, chrome and gold. This one is in the chrome finish. It is in MINT UNFIRED condition and comes complete with all six (6) ORIGINAL Nichols three-piece shooting shell toy bullets. It functions as it should rotating the cylinder with each pull of the trigger. This is one of the most desired and sought after cap guns that Nichols ever produced and is my favorite of all of the Nichols cap guns.
